Tips on Applying for Scholarships, Awards & Bursaries

  • Have your Social Insurance Number and Student ID Number with you
  • Apply for everything that you qualify for even when you think you don’t have a chance.  You never know, you could be the only one that applies!
  • Read the criteria very carefully.  If you do not meet the criteria then your application will automatically be obsolete.
  • Make sure that you fill out the details on the application accurately. Your application will not be considered if it is not filled out completely and correctly.
  • If you ever have any questions or concerns contact the Student Awards Administrator in Student Services or if it is an External award contact the company or organization. No question is a dumb question!
  • Submit your application on time.  No late entries will be accepted. Refer to the dates and deadlines section of the web site if you need assistance or contact the Student Awards Administrator.
  • When choosing references, choose them wisely.  You want to make sure that you choose someone who will represent you suitably.  You should know this person for a minimum of six months and you should always advise them (give your reference a “heads-up”) of what they are being contacted about.
  • Look into what External Awards you might be eligible for. There are endless opportunities out there and it only takes a few minutes to look.  Refer to the Web Resources section of the web site or contact the Student Awards Administrator for further assistance.
