Animal Health - Lachlin McKinnon

The Lachlin McKinnon building, also known as the Animal Health building, is home to our Animal Sciences programs and the National Meat Training Centre.

Animal Science Building

The building was first opened in 1966 when the Animal Health program was first offered to students. The Animal Science programs have grown to become among our most popular, with more applicants than available seats every year. With a number of classrooms and a dedicated animal hospital space, students learn in both classroom and hands on environments.

National Meat Training Centre

Olds College has the only facility in North America where students have the opportunity to learn everything from humane animal slaughter, all the way to retail cutting. Students enrolled in the Meat Processing Certificate program are immersed in the day to day operations of the plant, including the operation of the Olds College Meat Retail Store. The Meat Retail Store carries fresh beef, pork, lamb, chicken, as well as a variety of value added products such as sandwich meats and sausages, and ready to eat products, including fully cooked cabbage rolls, pulled pork, and more!
