Language and Culture in Central Alberta

This program is designed for students with lower-intermediate or mid-intermediate level of proficiency in the English language. Students will be integrated into the community in order to develop their language and cross-cultural competencies.

Program summary

Students in this unique four week course will travel Alberta on cultural trips, excursions, and community events, participate in interactive classes, gain workplace and education skills. These experiences will help in pursuing further studies at Olds College. Olds College has extensive experience in preparing students for success. Our Language and Culture program in Central Alberta has been delivered in numerous occasions for special cohorts from Mexico, Brazil and Japan.

Program structure and student progression

Upon application, students must submit proof of their language level. Applicants placed in English Language Learning (ELL) level 1 should have at least a lower-intermediate level of English. We offer 4 different levels of classes: International ELL 1, 2, 3 & 4.

Pathways

Students who successfully complete ELL 4 with a grade of “B” or higher meet the language proficiency requirements for most Olds College career programs.

Schedule

For spring intake (May and June), classes for International ELL 1 and 2 are held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, over 4 weeks.

For summer intake (July and August) classes for International ELL 3 and 4 are held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, over 4 weeks.
