Green Certificate

Olds College is proud to offer Green Certificate Agricultural Apprenticeship Training for High School Students in Central Alberta in collaboration with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) and Alberta Education.

The Green Certificate Program provides trainees with opportunities to enter a variety of agriculture-related, structured learning pathways as a part of their senior high school program and to earn up to 16 Grade 12 diploma credits and a credential leading to a career in agribusiness. Students learn on the job, under the direction of experienced farm personnel. Trainees select one of the specializations and under the guidance of their own trainer, work towards mastering all skills within their training program including:

  • Cow Calf Beef
  • Dairy
  • Equine
  • Feedlot Beef
  • Field Crop
  • Greenhouse
  • Irrigated Field Crop
  • Poultry – Broiler Chicken
  • Poultry – Hatching Egg
  • Poultry – Table Egg
  • Poultry – Turkey
  • Sheep
  • Swine

Green Certificate Testing

At the completion of training in each section of each Green Certificate program, students will attend Olds College, on a test day, to be formally evaluated on their knowledge and skills to determine if the student has met the general and specific outcomes specified for the course.

Training Opportunities

Training Opportunities are unique events designed to give students additional information about the College through a guided campus tour and program session, while learning from our instructors and gaining skills for their Green Certificate program.

Young Farm Worker Safety Training Workshop

Date: May 3 - 16, 2021
Location: Online - Central Alberta Region - Olds College
Cost: Free

Surprise! Our committee did find a way to provide our young farm workers some safety training online: 

  1. Online safety module training - 6 topics - available from today until May 16, 2021
  2. Online showing of SILO The Film (not required for credit) - May 13, 2021 at 6:30pm
  3. Online 1 hour follow up safety webinar - May 17, 2021 at 6:30pm
  4. Online quiz and a printable workbook to complete at home. We are able to offer a mark for students to get their AGR2950 credit if desired - submit to me by May 31, 2021
  5. Online evaluation to complete and be entered in the draw for gift certificates - mid May 2021

AGR 3000 In-Person Workshop

Explore safety topics that matter to you, your farm and employers. This in person workshop includes sessions such as Hazard Assessment and Control, Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, Confined Spaces, Personal Protective Equipment and Emergency Response Planning.

Please note: this workshop is only for Green Certificate students.

 

  

Green Certificate Equine Reproduction Workshop

You will have campus visit and presentation designed to help you explore educational opportunities and gain experience needed for your Equine Green Certificate program. Dr. Marion Anderson, Chair of the Equine Science program, will be presenting “Describe and Understand the Reproductive Cycle”, "Distinguish Between Features of a Horse's Reproductive Cycle", “Understanding Different Breeding Technologies" and "Compare Breeding Methods".


Green Certificate Large Animal Anatomy Workshop

You will have a campus visit and presentation designed to help you explore educational opportunities and gain experience needed for your Green Certificate program. Neil French will be presenting “Cattle Physiology and Anatomy”.
