Dominican Republic Coffee Project Field School

Academic Session Dates: Spring 2014

Travel and Campus Dates: April 27 – May 6, 2014

Program Description

The 2014 Dominican Republic Coffee Project Field School was organized by the International Department and the Canadian Institute for Rural Entrepreneurship at Olds College in conjunction with Centennial College in Toronto. This field school allowed students to meet with players in all parts of the coffee supply chain including the growers and the coffee classification and exporting facility in the Dominican Republic, the roasting and bagging company in Calgary, and a key coffee retail company in Calgary. This was a unique opportunity to understand first hand an international supply chain. Students received funding from both Campus Alberta Grant for International Education (CAGFIL) and the International Plowing Committee.
