Partnerships are truly the foundation of the work at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology. Whether financial, academic or experiential, these partnerships raise the bar for what can be delivered throughout the year.
The Smart Farm and Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) provide researchers and partners with the ability to take things that are new and novel, and may still require development and apply them to a real-world environment. This provides partners with a unique means of gaining boots-on-the-ground testing and learnings for their technologies and practices, and the opportunity to see their technology in action.
The work continues and Olds College welcomes strategic partners who are looking to invest in building, testing or developing solutions. The Smart Farm is a place that can bring everyone together to transform agriculture for a better world.
These generous land donations have been instrumental in expanding the Olds College Smart Farm and, in turn, broadening the research opportunities available to industry partners, and Olds College researchers, faculty and students. The scale and diversity of research conducted by the Olds College Centre for Innovation would not be possible without this land. Many current and future research projects exist directly because of these invaluable contributions.
In 2019, George and Margery Steckler marked their retirement after 47 years of farming with a generous donation of 310 acres of farmland west of Didsbury, Alta., to the Olds College Smart Farm. The College began farming this land during the 2021 growing season. Building on this legacy, the Stecklers further expanded Smart Farm in 2022 with a pledge of 800 acres of land west of Craik, Sask., enabling Olds College to extend its research footprint into the province.

Olds College received an incredible gift of 316 acres of farmland located near Carstairs, Alta., from the estate of Willem and Marj Pitstra in 2019. Valued at $1.2 million, the land expanded the Olds College Smart Farm and research opportunities to support regenerative agriculture research and education.
