Update on actions we are taking in regard to COVID-19

We are staying up to date on all information available from Health authorities in an effort to operate in the safest manner possible. The retail store will remain open with normal hours until further notice. However, to be safe to our customers and our staff, we are implementing a few precautionary measures:

  1. We will, effective immediately, suspend the refilling of used growlers until further notice. We will be able to fill new growlers and to help we will be offering a 25% off on new growlers.

  2. We will be taking extra precautions with cleaning and sanitizing surfaces multiple times a day.

  3. We will encourage staff to increase the frequency of handwashing and will provide a hand sanitizer station for customers.

  4. We will keep a social distance between staffs and customers.

  5. We will temporarily halt using cash as a method of payment. We will be accepting debit and credit.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates to our patrons. Be safe out there!

The brewing industry in Alberta and Canada is growing rapidly.  Customer demand has led to an explosion in the numbers of locally owned and operated craft breweries. The demand for locally produced brews has led to establishing the Olds College Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program, and the Olds College Brewery and Brewery Retail Store.

The Olds College Brewery Retail Store sells cans, bottles, bombers, growlers and kegs. Our beers are also available at leading bars, restaurants, and liquor retailers across central Alberta!

As a social enterprise we are not profit driven. All revenue from beer sales goes toward supporting education and in doing so, the brewing industry. Our only goal is to train the next generation right and to produce the best beer possible while doing so.

We produce all types of beer and train students in all beer styles, so we are constantly turning out new and creative seasonal brews in addition to our four ‘core’ brands.

Core Beers

(Available Year-Round)

Hay City

A delicious, sessionable beer brewed for beer evangelists and newcomers alike. Constructed from pure Canadian wheat and barley, this refreshing ale is crisp and clean, with a mild malt sweetness.

Style: American Wheat Ale

ABV: 5.0% | IBU: 20 | SRM: 5

Aggie Ale

Dank and citrusy hops are backed by a toasty caramel malt body with hints of bready overtones. Aggie Ale is generously hopped with a blend of Pacific Northwest style hops throughout the brewing process to let you know what the students are all about.  Pairs perfectly with a completed midterm.

Style: Pacific Northwest Amber Ale

ABV: 5.0% | IBU: 51 | SRM: 21

Olds Skhool

Full of rich, nutty, and roasty flavours, this American style brown ale has just the right balance of hop character to pique the interest and balance the malt complexity. Pairs perfectly with cold winter days while remaining light enough to spend some time on the summer patio.

Style: American Brown Ale

ABV: 5.4% | IBU: 36 | SRM: 38

Prairie Gold

Hops, hops, hops, and did you say you wanted some hops?  This Pacific Northwest-styled IPA combines a full, malty backbone to balance an aggressive hopping schedule. Caramel and light, bready flavours from the malts intermingle with the powerful citrus, resin, and tropical fruit character of the hops. An intensely hoppy beer elegantly balanced for quaffability.

Pile Driver Beer

Pile Driver Double IPA

Description: Every sip of our Pile Driver Double IPA hits the tongue with a heavy dose of hops and drives the flavour deep into your taste buds. Liberal use of hops late in the boil and dry-hopping creates flavours of syrupy mango and papaya with hints of passion fruit. Light sweetness and creamy mouthfeel conceal the power within.

Ingredients: ABV: 9.0% | IBU: 85 | SRM: 10

Saazquatch Lager

Saazquatch Lager

This Czech-style pils is a refined beast. While true to its style with fruity and floral tones and slight grassy notes... it definitely has attitude. The subtle spiciness of this beer's namesake Saaz hop complements its sweet and savoury malt character. Rarely seen, you don't need to have big feet to know this beer is sure to become a legend!

Limited Editions & Student Creations

The Student Craft Beer series allows students of the Olds College Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program to create and sell their very own beers. From the recipe, through the brewing process, to the naming and marketing of the beer, these beers are a product of the skill, determination, and imagination of our students. These beers are brewed in smaller batches, and as such are available in limited quantities. Pick one up today and try them for yourself!

Students aren't the only ones who get to be creative. Our Head Brewmaster has created a line of limited edition seasonal brews, the Brewmaster's School's Out Series. The School's Out Series allows for the opportunity to create one-off batches of beer that you probably cannot find in your traditional liquor store; beers that are adventurous, bold, and will challenge your senses.

The Student Craft Beer series and Brewmaster's "School's Out" Series are only available in the Brewery Retail Store.

Saint Brigid, patron saint of brewers, founded her abbey at Kildare ca. 480 CE. Kildare takes
its name from the Gaelic Cill Dara, meaning "Church of the Oak". This beer exhibits notes of bubblegum, banana, clove, smoke, and yes, oak; a suitable addition to any feast. Sláinte!

Welcome to the Party Pal

Run to the Pils

Student Craft Beer Series: Run to the Pils

Run to the Pils is my NorCal twist on the classic Pilsner. It uses locally grown Alberta barley as well as flaked corn to give it a drier, crispier mouthfeel. The hops include Simcoe, which is grown in the American northwest and adds citrusy and piney notes to compliment the German Mandarina Bavaria’s juicy tangerine flavor. Cheers!

ABV: 5.5%

Cowboy Down

Cowboy Down

Bright and lively, this beer starts out with slightly herbal, spicy noble hop character on the nose accentuated by light stonefruit and floral notes. These flavours carry through on the tongue and then fade to a crisp, clean finish.
