Olds College Brewery

Interior of the Olds College Brewery

The brewing industry in Alberta and Canada is growing rapidly.  Customer demand has led to an explosion in the numbers of locally owned and operated craft breweries. The demand for locally produced brews has led to establishing the Olds College Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program, and the Olds College Brewery and Brewery Retail Store.

Olds College has a 100+ year history in education supporting the agriculture and agriculture value-added sectors, so the idea of starting up a teaching brewery was a natural fit. In 2012 we broke ground on a state of the art 2,000 square foot facility dedicated to teaching students the art and science behind brewing the best beer possible. Our brewing equipment is tailored for small commercial production.

The Olds College Brewery Retail Store sells cans, bottles, bombers, growlers and kegs. Our beers are also available at leading bars, restaurants, and liquor retailers across central Alberta!

As a social enterprise we are not profit driven. All revenue from beer sales goes toward supporting education and in doing so, the brewing industry. Our only goal is to train the next generation right and to produce the best beer possible while doing so.

We produce all types of beer and train students in all beer styles, so we are constantly turning out new and creative seasonal brews in addition to our four ‘core’ brands.

Limited Editions & Student Creations

The Student Craft Beer series allows students of the Olds College Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program to create and sell their very own beers. From the recipe, through the brewing process, to the naming and marketing of the beer, these beers are a product of the skill, determination, and imagination of our students. These beers are brewed in smaller batches, and as such are available in limited quantities. Pick one up today and try them for yourself!

Students aren't the only ones who get to be creative. Our Head Brewmaster has created a line of limited edition seasonal brews, the Brewmaster's School's Out Series. The School's Out Series allows for the opportunity to create one-off batches of beer that you probably cannot find in your traditional liquor store; beers that are adventurous, bold, and will challenge your senses.

The Student Craft Beer series and Brewmaster's "School's Out" Series are only available in the Brewery Retail Store.

For Those About to Rauch

For Those About To Rauch

Only a few hops went into this beer – just enough to balance out the sweetness. What did go in was a healthy dose of Beechwood-smoked malt, giving this brew a smoky, campfire quality that is unique to rauchbiers (also known as smoke beers). “For Those About to Rauch” pairs well with barbecue or a classic ham and cheese sandwich.

Style: Rauchbier

ABV: 6.1%
