Olds College Brewery

Brewery Banner

As a social enterprise we are not profit driven. All revenue from beer sales goes toward supporting education and in doing so, the brewing industry. Our only goal is to train the next generation right and to produce the best beer possible while doing so.

The brewing industry in Alberta and Canada is growing rapidly. Customer demand has led to an explosion in the numbers of locally owned and operated craft breweries. The demand for locally produced brews has led to establishing the Olds College Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program, and the Olds College Brewery and Brewery Retail Store. The Olds College Brewery Retail Store sells cans, bottles, bombers, growlers and kegs. Our beers are also available at leading bars, restaurants, and liquor retailers across central Alberta! We produce all types of beer and train students in all beer styles, so we are constantly turning out new and creative seasonal brews in addition to our four ‘core’ brands.

Style: Pacific Northwest Amber Ale

Old Skhool

Full of rich, nutty, and roasty flavours, this American style brown ale has just the right balance of hop character to pique the interest and balance the malt complexity. Pairs perfectly with cold winter days while remaining light enough to spend some time on the summer patio.

Limited Editions & Student Creations

The Student Craft Beer series allows students of the Olds College Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program to create and sell their very own beers. From the recipe, through the brewing process, to the naming and marketing of the beer, these beers are a product of the skill, determination, and imagination of our students. These beers are brewed in smaller batches, and as such are available in limited quantities. Pick one up today and try them for yourself!

The Golden Gal Ale

The malt provides a light biscuity backdrop perfect for the burst of tropical aroma and gentle pine finish. Take a walk with the Golden Gal and experience the nuances of the 2022 Pink Boots Blend.

Stranded Sailor

A traditional version of the popular sweet, dark West Indies styles with a touch of new school. Easy drinking with subtle notes of pineapple and red berries, complemented with a slight roast character, molasses and caramel. Grab a pint and get stranded! Everything is Irie Man!

CHAI of the Beholder

A beer limmerick to enjoy while you drink. We started off with some dark malt. Though added in way too much salt. No room for debate. The Chai spice is great. The flavour is still without fault

DAS ARBEITER

Originally brewed in the former German Democratic Republic, this style brings together the bold and sweet flavors of the malt with a minor hop to balance and smooth drinkability.

Beer School XPA

Nelson Sauvin and Sabro hops put the "Extra" into this Extra Pale Ale. Pomelo, tangerine, nectarine, overripe pineapple, and hints of coconut give this light-bodied, low maltiness pale ale a flavourful punch.

Seasonal Beers

Lowe Down

Made with 100% Lowe barley developed at the Field Crop Development Centre (now part of Olds College) and malted at Red Shed, with Nugget and Cascade hops from Mountain View Hop Farms, this beer is light, bright, clean, crisp, and refreshing, showcasing all the Alberta can be.

Olds Bourbon Barrel Ale

The copper coloured ale was aged in KOVAL bourbon barrels for more than 6 weeks. Smooth malt character with rich caramel and nutty notes intermingle with the vanilla, oak, and bourbon flavors from the barrel ageing process. Not too heavy and easy-drinking enough for a warm summer afternoon while still rich enough as an after dinner treat.

How Now Brown Cow

Brown cows don't make chocolate milk, but this one sure tried! Hefty amounts of lactose, natural coca, and vanilla create a creamy, full-bodied chocolate experience. This is the milk you imagined brown cows made...

Pile Driver Double IPA (out of stock)

Every sip of our Pile Driver Double IPA hits the tongue with a heavy dose of hops and drives the flavour deep into your taste buds. Liberal use of hops late in the boil and dry-hopping creates flavours of syrupy mango and papaya with hints of passion fruit. Light sweetness and creamy mouthfeel conceal the power within.

Your Wish is Pomegranted

The 2021 #BeTheBrewer beer is a mildly tart, hazy, but not hoppy, summer crusher that could also be enjoyable well into the autumn months. Saskatoon puree and pomegranate juice give this beer a sun-kissed glow with undertones as well as overtones of fruitiness. Sessionable, with a clean, wheaty semi-dry finish, this beer would pair well with BBQ, fish, turkey dinner, or with ice cream for a refreshing treat!

Saazquatch Lager

This Czech-style pils is a refined beast. While true to its style with fruity and floral tones and slight grassy notes... it definitely has attitude. The subtle spiciness of this beer's namesake Saaz hop complements its sweet and savoury malt character. Rarely seen, you don't need to have big feet to know this beer is sure to become a legend!
