David Prins MSc

Horticulture Instructor

Bio

David joined the Olds College faculty in Fall of 2023. He is a returning Albertan who spent 11 years in the US, first obtaining his Master's Degree in Agricultural Education at Oregon State University, then teaching Horticulture at Spokane Community College on the 'dry side' of Washington State. Before leaving for the U.S.A. he was a manager at TR Greenhouses, a cucumber/tomato greenhouse operation in the nearby town of Lacombe, Alberta. This was the same operation he honed his horticultural skills on as a young lad. David attended Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA for his undergraduate degree, where he studied Agriculture: Plant Science. He also has completed industry trainings in sustainable tropical agriculture and aquaponic production in greenhouses. In recent years he has developed a passion for gardening with perennials, trees and shrubs, and has a particular interest in plants with unique foliage and/or fragrance.

David lives in Red Deer with his wife and two children. In his spare time it is likely you'll find him walking the trail system with his kids, tinkering with plants in his yard, or playing old-timer hockey at one of the local rinks.
