Your Rights & Responsibilities

Students at Olds College have the right to learn in an environment that is safe, inclusive, and free from discrimination, harassment, and violence. Students are also responsible for conducting themselves in a way that supports a healthy academic and campus community.

Key policies that guide these expectations include:

Reporting Concerns

If you experience or witness behaviour that affects safety, academic integrity, or community wellbeing, you are encouraged to report it as soon as possible.

  • Guardian is your primary online reporting tool for:

    • Non-academic misconduct
    • Academic misconduct
    • Sexual and gender-based violence
    • Safety or well-being concerns

    You may also report concerns directly to:

  • It is the College's goal to use fair, transparent, and timely processes when responding to student concerns.

    General Resolution Process:

    • Intake & Initial Review – The College reviews the concern and identifies the relevant policy.
    • Screening & Referral – The issue may be addressed informally or referred for formal review.
    • Resolution – May include informal education or formal investigation and outcomes.
    • Appeals – Students may request a review of significant decisions.

    All processes follow the balance of probabilities standard and uphold privacy, support, and procedural fairness. Specifics are included in each procedure.

  • Non-Academic Misconduct:

    Behaviour that negatively affects safety, property, community wellbeing, or the operations of the College.

    Examples: harassment, discrimination, violence, disruption, property damage, inappropriate online conduct.

    Academic Misconduct:

    Any action that compromises academic integrity.

    Examples: plagiarism, cheating, unauthorized collaboration, falsification, misuse of AI tools, impersonation, etc.

    Sexual and Gender-Based Violence:

    Any sexual or gender-based act committed without consent, including harassment, assault, stalking and intimate partner violence.

    Support and reporting options are available whether or not you choose to file a formal report.

    Disputes, Complaints & Appeals:

    Students may raise concerns or seek reviews of:

    • Academic grades and evaluations
    • Academic or non-academic misconduct decisions
    • Non-academic service concerns
    • Decisions affecting academic standing or student status
    • Support Services

    *Students do not need to be in crisis to access support.
