Dr. Aghata da Silva joined the Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production (TACLP) team as a Research Scientist in March 2026.
Aghata has been involved with animal production for over 15 years, gaining extensive academic and field training in both Brazil and the United States. She obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Animal Sciences from Brazil's Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco in 2017 and completed her Master of Science (M.S.) in Animal Sciences from the Universidade Federal de Viçosa in 2019. She achieved her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Animal and Rangeland Science from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2022. Throughout her studies, Aghata has conducted nutritional research working with cow-calf operations, feedlot cattle, sheep, and buffaloes.
Growing up in the small rural town of Paudalho in northeastern Brazil gave Aghata a deep appreciation for agricultural communities, driving her passion for translating scientific theory into practical, real-world solutions for livestock producers. In her current role at TACLP, she is diving into applied research with beef and sheep. She is eager to work directly with producers to demonstrate and optimize technologies that improve animal health and welfare, increase production efficiency, and enhance environmental sustainability. Aghata is also deeply motivated to help demystify common misconceptions about livestock production, advocating that responsibly managed livestock can be an important part of environmental solutions.
Outside of work, Aghata’s life is grounded in her faith and her family. She enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and one-year-old son. Together, they love biking, exploring nature, traveling, and discovering new places.
