In Memoriam: Honouring the Legacy of Constantine “Connie” Ostermann
Olds College of Agriculture & Technology joins the family, friends, and central Alberta community in mourning the passing of The Honourable Constantine “Connie” Elaine Ostermann (née Oel), who passed away peacefully on Sept. 26, 2026 at the age of 90.
A devoted community advocate, former Cabinet Minister and cherished matriarch, Connie held a personal connection to Olds College. Her legacy on our campus is woven through both generational family pride — with her grandson and granddaughter-in-law among our proud Olds College alumni — and a steadfast commitment to empowering agriculture students.
Along with her late husband, Joe, Connie established the Ostermann Oel Foundation, which has generously contributed over $33,000 to Olds College over the years. Their thoughtful philanthropy has touched nearly every corner of student life — from emergency aid through the Student Emergency Bursary, to athletic programming and the Opportunities Fund. Her and Joe's vision blossomed further with the creation of the Ostermann Oel Award, providing an annual $5,000 award to support deserving students in achieving their academic and career goals.
To ensure her impact endures for generations to come, the Ostermann family is currently working alongside the College to establish a permanent endowment, allowing the Ostermann Oel Award to support future leaders in agriculture in perpetuity.
Connie’s passion for community, public service and education leaves an indelible mark on our campus and region. The Olds College community extends its heartfelt condolences to the entire Ostermann family during this time. Her vision, generosity and spirit will continue to inspire our students for years to come.
