Olds College of Agriculture & Technology is pleased to announce the appointment of the Hon. Ted Menzies, P.C., as the new Chair of the Olds College Board of Governors by the Government of Alberta Ministry of Advanced Education. Menzies has been a member of the Board since 2020, bringing extensive experience and expertise in the agri-food sector, international trade, and public service.
With a distinguished career in primary production and policy development for the agri-food sector and international trade, Menzies has actively engaged with commodity organizations and advisory panels. He has delivered influential speeches on trade and agri-food topics on prestigious platforms worldwide.
As a former Member of Parliament, Menzies held significant positions, including Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and Minister of Finance. His appointment as Minister of State for Finance and membership in the King’s Privy Council of Canada highlight his expertise and leadership. He has also represented Canada in international financial oversight bodies such as APEC and as Governor at the OECD.
After retiring from politics, Menzies served as the President and CEO of CropLife Canada, and Board Director of CropLife International, representing the plant science and biotech industry. He remains actively involved in organizations including the Canadian Ag Hall of Fame and Alberta's Ag for Life.

Menzies will succeed the previous Chair, Leona Staples, who has played a vital role in guiding the College towards its vision of becoming a leading integrated learning and applied research community focused on agriculture, horticulture, land, and environmental stewardship.

The Board of Governors is also pleased to announce the appointment of three public members — Al Kemmere, Sarah Hayes and Tracy Gardner, who bring expertise in governance, administration and educational leadership.
