We’re thrilled to share that two of our very own students, Zenith Vanstone and Keagan Grills, have been awarded the 2024 Bayer Crop Science Opportunity Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship supports first-year students pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture, food science or culinary programs.
“I am very excited to begin my post-secondary studies in agriculture and feel privileged to be a part of the future of this industry,” says Vanstone (pictured). “With the support of this scholarship, I will be able to expand on my knowledge of agriculture practices, learn about new innovative technology and develop a deeper understanding of sustainable farming. I am truly grateful for the investment into my studies and the future of my family farm.”
The scholarship aims to inspire and support the next generation of leaders in Canadian agriculture. Zenith and Keagan are among 12 exceptional students from various institutions who each received the $5,000 scholarship this year, underscoring the importance of nurturing young talent in this vital sector.
“My plan is to complete the Land and Water Resources Diploma at Olds College before furthering my education at Lakeland College — after which I plan to work in the agriculture industry,” says Grills. “The funding I’ve received from being awarded this scholarship will relieve some of the financial stress I’ll be faced with through my post-secondary years."
Since its inception in 1991, the Bayer Fund Opportunity Scholarship program has provided over $2 million in funding to deserving students across Canada. This year’s scholarships were administered by Universities Canada’s Scholarship Partners Canada, further emphasizing the commitment to educational excellence in agriculture.
At Olds College, we proudly celebrate Zenith and Keagan’s achievements and look forward to supporting their journeys as future leaders in sustainable agriculture. For more information about our programs and initiatives, visit Olds College.
