Broncos Announce New Men’s Volleyball Head Coach

May 27, 2026

Olds College Broncos are pleased to announce the hiring of Kurt Wootton as head coach of the men’s volleyball program.

Wootton has been involved with the sport since the age of 11 and brings extensive playing and coaching experience from across Canada to the Broncos program.

As a player, Wootton concluded his club career in Toronto with the Scarborough Solars Volleyball Club, earning a silver medal at senior men’s nationals before continuing his playing career at the University of King’s College in Halifax. He later transferred to Wilfrid Laurier University, where he completed his collegiate career under coach Shayne White while earning a degree in economics with a concentration in political science.

Still active as a player, Wootton is set to represent Canada at the 2026 US Open as a member of the Canada Masters Team.

Most recently coaching in Nova Scotia, Wootton captured two provincial championships while helping mentor athletes into post-secondary volleyball careers. While continuing his role as head coach with Truro Tide Volleyball Club, he stepped into the world of collegiate volleyball. In 2023, Wootton became the first coach hired at Dalhousie Agricultural College in more than 20 years as head coach of the men’s volleyball team. Prior to his time in Nova Scotia, Wootton coached in Alberta with the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club, earning two provincial silver medals and a national silver medal.

“The Broncos have been building a solid foundation over the past few years,” said Wootton. “I’m really looking forward to leading a young group of returners and am excited about the incoming class of talented athletes.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Kurt to the Broncos family,” stated Rachel Cunningham, Athletics Manager. “His determination and sharp focus are exactly what we need to continue building a successful men’s volleyball program. What impressed us most was his alignment with our mission and his commitment to fostering the positive, growth-minded culture we are building at Olds College.”

Outside of volleyball, Wootton is an avid sports enthusiast who enjoys baseball, hockey, golf, squash, tennis and skiing. Known for maximizing the potential of the athletes and teams he leads, Wootton returns to Alberta eager to continue building on the momentum of the Broncos men’s volleyball program.
