Introduction to Welding

Learn welding techniques and gain hands-on practice with oxyacetylene, MIG, and arc welding.

This program is for beginners and for welders who would like more hands-on practice. This course will cover the theory, techniques and shop practice of multiple welding processes and concepts including the following: 

  • Shop and Welding Safety
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) 
  • Oxy Fuel Equipment (will be discussed but may not be available for the lab portion)
  • Basic welding metallurgical principles
  • Repair and fabrication procedures.

Program Dates:

  • Sept. 15 - Oct. 20, 2025
  • March 2 - April 1, 2026

Time: Mondays & Wednesdays from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Length of Program: 30 hours

Costs: $549 + GST (Manual included)

Delivery Method: Olds Campus

Applications Deadline: One week prior to class start, Please register early as spaces are limited.

Prerequisites: Some welding experience would be an asset but is not required.

Student Supplies: Students must bring PPE - Safety Glasses, Coveralls, Good Sturdy Shoes (steel toe recommended), Welding Gloves, Pliers, Welding Beanie or hat. Welding hood will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. 

Ages 14 & 15 must enroll along with a parent/adult.

Age 16+ can enroll without a parent. This includes a student who will be turning 16 during the course dates.
