These field demonstration trials showcase wheat, barley, oats, triticale and pea varieties from FP Genetics under Alberta growing conditions. The trials provide producers and industry with field-scale comparisons of crop growth, yield and performance through field tours and knowledge sharing.
Funders/Partners: FP Genetics
Project Overview
- Evaluating and showcasing 35 wheat, barley, oats, triticale, and pea lines/cultivars from FP Genetics under Alberta field conditions.
- Conducting replicated field plots at the Olds College Smart Farm to demonstrate variety performance and provide an accessible site for field tours and industry engagement.
- Applying crop-specific fertility, plant growth regulators, fungicides and weed management practices to support optimal crop development.
- Collecting plot yield and grain moisture data to provide additional information on cultivar performance.
Project Goals
- Demonstrate new and existing FP Genetics cereal and pulse lines/cultivars under local growing conditions.
- Provide field-scale comparisons that support field tours, knowledge sharing and producer engagement.
- Showcase differences in crop growth and field performance among cereal and pulse cultivars.
- Generate yield and crop management information to support variety evaluation and future development.
