Grain Bin Monitoring Sensors (OPIsystems Inc.)

Olds College Centre of Innovation (OCCI) is collaborating with OPIsystems Inc., which is developing a new patented in-grain monitoring cable called the OMNI cable. The company is working with OCCI to test and compare this new product with the company’s EPIQ System and handheld OPI BLUE Lite systems.

The applied research project, which began in 2025 and will end in 2026, will be conducted using the equipment and resources of the Olds College Smart Farm. The working farm is a living laboratory on campus for crop, livestock and agricultural technology research spread over 3,300 acres.

Goals

  • Conduct repeated grain transfers between OPIsystems equipped bins using barley to collect data for OPI BLUE Lite and OPI EPIQ systems. These datasets will enable OPIsystems to conduct in-house analysis and assessments of their new hardware and software.
