Amongst the excitement of the Fall 2025 semester starting, a generous donation from Section23 Developments created new award opportunities for students at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology. The company has established two $5,000 scholarships to be awarded annually to students in good academic standing enrolled in one of the College's recognized Agriculture or Horticulture programs. These awards are more than just financial support — they are a celebration of students who will carry forward the legacy of innovation, sustainability and community that defines Alberta's agricultural and horticultural heritage.

Section23 Developments, a land development and residential design company based in Calgary, operates with a founding philosophy: “Take care of the land, and the land will take care of you.” This sentiment, shared by founder Robert Ollerenshaw, is deeply rooted in the Ollerenshaw family’s history of ranching and farming in southeast Calgary, which dates back to the early 1900s.
Their connection to the land drives their innovative approach to development, earning them a reputation for design excellence, sustainability and community-building. Section23's focus on “developing differently” — by respecting land, heritage and intergenerational connections — is exemplified by their innovative community, Rangeview. This is Calgary’s first “Garden-to-Table” community, designed to celebrate local agriculture, green spaces and shared food systems.
The company's deep-seated agricultural heritage and commitment to active stewardship made partnering with Olds College a seamless alignment of values. By creating these scholarships, Section23 is not only giving back to the industry that shaped its identity, but is also cultivating a future where communities can thrive — rooted in sustainability, education and shared purpose.
These scholarships support students who are passionate about fostering sustainable food systems through horticulture and agriculture — values that are central to both Olds College’s mission and Rangeview’s design philosophy.
Interested applicants are encouraged to apply by submitting a personal essay describing their vision and goals after graduation, giving a glimpse into the passion and purpose that drives the next generation of leaders in these fields. Final recipients are selected by the Section23 Developments Donation Committee from a shortlist provided by Olds College, ensuring a thoughtful process that reflects both academic merit and personal ambition.
