Heavy Equipment Operator - Individual Piece Training

  • English language proficiency

What we provide

Each program includes one week of safety training, coordinated and arranged by us to meet your needs, which must be completed before field training begins.

Safety Certifications include:

  • H2S Alive – Mandatory hydrogen sulphide safety ticket for oil and gas and construction worksites
  • First Aid Level C CPR – CSA-approved first aid ticket required by Alberta employers
  • CSTS 2020 – Construction Safety Training System ticket recognized across Canada
  • CSO – Common Safety Orientation for energy and industrial worksites
  • Ground Disturbance Level 2 – Required safety ticket for excavation and utility work in Alberta

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Personal protective equipment is required for all field components of the program and must be CSA approved, which includes:

    • Steel-toe safety footwear (minimum 6” ankle height)
    • Safety glasses
    • Reflective vest or reflective marked coveralls
    • Hard hat (yellow preferred, NOT white)
    • Hearing protection
    • Work gloves
    • Grease gun

    Failure to wear proper PPE when required will result in dismissal from class as this is a violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations at Olds College.

  • All classes are Monday to Friday, except statutory holidays. 

    • Industry safety classes: First week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
    • Field training: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Yes! This program is ideal for becoming familiar with specific equipment. It provides a beginner's understanding of safe operating procedures and industry-standard practices.

  • Yes. The advantage of our individual equipment training is that we can customize to your skill level. If you can complete basic competencies, we can advance you to more complex tasks to help you develop a deeper understanding and improve your skills. This includes fine-tuning abilities and correcting any bad habits.

The Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG) helps employers cover the cost of eligible training — including programs like this one — to enhance productivity and strengthen workforce skills for today’s fast-changing economy.

With funding from the Government of Canada through the Workforce Development Agreement, employers can apply on behalf of their employees and receive partial reimbursement for approved training.
