Abbas Yusuf is a Research Assistant with the crop research department at the Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI). His work focuses on field and laboratory crop research and agronomic data management. Passionate about sustainable agriculture, Abbas supports innovative research by ensuring high-quality data collection, maintaining research equipment and providing technical assistance for both indoor and outdoor field trials.
Before joining Olds College of Agriculture & Technology in 2024, Abbas gained extensive hands-on experience in agricultural consulting and production systems. He worked with Flourish Agricultural Consult in Nigeria, where he coordinated farm operations and provided technical guidance to producers and later served as a farm consultant with Alphakash Nigeria Limited. His earlier experience at the Teaching and Research Farm, University of Ilorin, allowed him to participate in crop management, poultry operations and plantation establishment.
Abbas holds a Bachelor of Agriculture from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria and a diploma in Agricultural Management, majoring in Production from Olds College. His academic and professional interests include crop improvement, precision agriculture, soil and water management and environmental sustainability.
Outside of work, Abbas enjoys connecting with family and friends, attending Islamic religion classes and playing soccer at leisure time. Abbas also loves exploring agricultural innovations, engaging with peers on sustainable food production and participating in community initiatives that promote learning and mentorship.
