Bio

As a Remote Sensing Specialist with the Olds College Centre of Innovation (OCCI), Russell frequently conducts data collection drone flights, creates interpretable maps from aerial imagery and performs different types of spatial data analysis depending on the research project needs. His role also includes technical writing and detailed reporting to document workflows and methodologies.

Russell enjoys that his work is novel — each project brings its own unique set of considerations and requirements. The variety within agricultural research offers countless opportunities for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems data collection, making the work both dynamic and exciting.

Russell graduated from Olds College of Agriculture & Technology with a diploma in Land & Water Resources, completing a double major in Rural Planning and Reclamation/Remediation. He then went on to earn a Bachelor of Applied Technology Geographic Information Systems from SAIT.

Outside of work, Russell enjoys relaxing with video games, cooking and expressing his creativity through painting and calligraphy.
