Research Associate

Bio

Samuel is a Research Associate in the Environmental Stewardship Department at OCCI, specializing in water quality management. With over a decade of experience in environmental science—including soil and water science, sustainable land management, and irrigation projects—he brings extensive expertise to his role. At Olds College, Samuel focuses on applied research in agricultural water quality and stormwater management, supporting field-based monitoring, data analysis, and the development of practical, science-based solutions. He is also involved in applied research in agricultural land stewardship and management, including the identification and evaluation of beneficial management practices that improve productivity, environmental performance, and long-term sustainability across both arable and non-arable marginal lands. His work integrates native plant species and naturalized systems for phytoremediation, contributing to scalable and sustainable water and land management strategies.

Before joining OCCI, Samuel worked on applied research at the University of Regina, where he studied nutrient management and algal control in irrigation systems. His work involved analyzing soil and water properties, identifying environmentally friendly algae control technologies, and assessing environmental compliance strategies.

Samuel holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Regina. He is a Registered Professional Agrologist (PAg) and an Environmental Professional (EP) with ECO Canada. His dedication to sustainability has earned him recognition for aligning his projects with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
