“College should be a time where students can discover who they are, explore, and be themselves,” says Keith Friedlander, Instructor, Olds College. “Our LGBTQA2S+ students and staff deserve a community where they feel comfortable doing just that, but it’s only possible if we actively support that kind of campus culture. That’s why having a GSA matters.”
The Olds College Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee is composed of Olds College staff, faculty, students and guests from the Town of Olds. The EDI committee is committed to celebrating and building awareness around the LGBTQ2+ community. Throughout the year, the EDI committee will host documentary screenings and events, and showcase the Pride themed flower planters throughout the campus.
The EDI committee has several events planned for June in celebration of the 2022 Pride month, including the installation of a progressive pride flag crosswalk in front of Centennial Village.
“The EDI committee has taken important strides to becoming a more inclusive campus, by addressing issues and building awareness at Olds College,” comments Stuart Cullum, President, Olds College. “We’re thrilled to see the leadership and events that come from the EDI committee.”
