March 20, 2023

agtech-invitational.jpegOver 250 high school students were on campus Wednesday, March 15 for an AgTech Invitational event led by Olds College of Agriculture & Technology recruitment staff and faculty members. The event provided students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of agriculture and technology, and learn about different career paths and programs available at the College.

Students came from all over Alberta and ranged from grades nine to 12. Many of them were already familiar with Olds College and had previously participated in the Dual Credit programs ATG 1007 - Electronics and Control Systems and ATG 1008 - Solving Technology Problems.

The day started with the students being split into two groups. The first group headed to the Alumni Centre where they were given an overview of the Dual Credit program offerings, the student experience at the College, and the different careers available in agriculture. The students were also shown the range of programs available including a deep dive into the Bachelor of Digital Agriculture degree program and the Precision Agriculture - Techgronomy diploma program.

The second group had the opportunity to visit the new Werkland Agriculture and Technology Centre where they took part in hands-on activities and demonstration of Zumo robots, drones and more.

Between sessions, the students were treated to a complimentary lunch, which gave them the chance to mingle and network with each other. The groups then swapped to experience both sessions. One highlight of the day was the appearance of Billy the Bronco, the College's beloved mascot. Billy made sure to take photos with students and hand out stickers.
