Celebrating Another Successful AgSmart

August 05, 2023

On August 1 & 2, 2023, Olds College of Agriculture & Technology welcomed more than 3,100 people for its fourth in-person AgSmart event. This two-day educational expo focused on agriculture technology and data across the sector — how to gather it and how to use it to enhance productivity and profits.

"At Olds College, we work very hard to be at the cutting edge of agriculture and technology in Alberta and around the world,” comments Todd Ormann, Vice President, Development, Olds College. “Our annual AgSmart event is an opportunity for all members of the ag community to come together to pool our knowledge and resources, to share our experiences, and really to strengthen and grow the industry as a whole. We are proud to have built a quality event over these last several years, and I am already looking forward to next year."

The 42 educational sessions covered a multitude of topics from artificial intelligence to regenerative agriculture and satellite imagery use on farms. In addition, attendees were able to interact with 114 exhibitors and view one of many hands-on demonstrations featured, including Threshold UAV’s swarm drone mapping, Claas’ Axion’s tractor, and the COWGO loading system to name just a few.

The expo is also a unique opportunity for producers to engage with the Olds College Smart Farm, including tours, demos and conversations with researchers in the Olds College Tent. Our Field Crop Development Centre (FCDC) hosted their annual Field Day as part of AgSmart this year on Aug. 2. We celebrated 50 years of variety development innovation within FCDC, who also were featured among the 30 crop plots included in the expo this year.

Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who helped make the event a huge success again this year. We look forward to welcoming you to the fifth AgSmart taking place July 30 & 31, 2024.
