Over five-hundred high school students, teachers and parents attended Olds College of Agriculture & Technology to learn about program offerings and experience our campus for Discovery Day! Attendees travelled from all over Canada – Quebec to British Columbia – along with 14 Alberta high schools.
With 24 sessions around campus for attendees to choose from, they spent the day moving from session-to-session, learning and taking part in demonstrations. Attendees explored and discovered programs in agriculture, ag technology, horticulture, land and environment, equine, animal health, business, trades, tourism, meat and brew. They were able to watch demonstrations of artificial insemination, tour the meat processing facility and see our arboriculture instructor climb trees without touching it (to name a few). All attendees left with a good notion of what hands-on learning and classes look like at Olds College.
Attendees also got the opportunity to discover what student life is like with booths from the Olds College Broncos Athletics, the Students Association of Olds College, Scholarships and Awards, Recruitment, the Transitional Employment Program, Continuing Education, and Health and Wellness. Through guided campus tours, students had the opportunity to get the full breadth of what the campus had to offer including visits to the Alumni Museum, Campus Bookstore, Olds College Brewery, Retail Meat Store, Greenhouse and Indigenous Gathering Room. Along with learning about Olds College, participants were also able to join tours of the Centennial Village residence rooms and shared spaces.
The ultimate perk to attending Discovery Day — participants were able to apply for programs that interested them for no fee. This amazing opportunity resulted in Olds College receiving 65 applications for the 2023 term!
