On April 26, 2024, Olds College of Agriculture & Technology was thrilled to welcome over 30 guests from numerous post-secondary institutions located in the Caribbean — representing Belize, Dominica, Guyana, Grenada, St. Lucia and Jamaica — as well as eight attendees from Kenya as part of the Skills to Access the Green Economy (SAGE) initiative in partnership with CICan (Colleges and Institutes Canada) experiential learning initiative.
The CICan guests were welcomed into the Werklund Agriculture and Technology Centre for a presentation on Olds College academic programs and applied research activities. Afterwards, they were toured through the Olds College campus and Smart Farm by Todd Ormann, Vice President, Development, Olds College, to get an in-depth look at how programming and applied research activities are integrated into the Smart Farm to enhance both student-learning experiences and innovation for the agriculture industry.
“It’s so rewarding to host such an engaged audience from post-secondary institutions around the world to showcase the positive impacts our research activities, programming and work-integrated learning are having on Canada’s agriculture industry,” says Ormann. “Through partnerships with industry leaders, we’ve truly cultivated a vibrant learning ecosystem that fosters student and research success — and we’re always thrilled to showcase Western Canadian agriculture to a group who is passionate about students, education and research.”
Thank you to CICan for helping gather such an engaged audience from a variety of post-secondary institutions from around the world for a great day of engaging discussions and information sharing.
