The Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production (TACLP) is identifying and quantifying a panel of predictive blood biomarkers of feed efficiency and parasite infections of sheep in order to support sustainable and profitable sheep production.
Benefits of this research include pioneering a novel screening method for sheep feed efficiency and preclinical parasitic infection; reducing the cost and time to identify feed-efficient animals; and identifying parasitic infection at subclinical stage to allow a targeted treatment for preventing further development and production loss (which reduces mass use of dewormers and slows down anthelmintic resistance).
