The Government of Canada has announced a $87.5 million investment over four years to support 16 collaborative research projects involving 165 researchers from 30 different academic institutions across Canada that will contribute to a sustainable, profitable and resilient agriculture and agri-food sector.
As part of this federal announcement, the University of Guelph (U of G) is receiving nearly $8 million for a project focused on lowering greenhouse gas emissions through improved nitrogen fertilizer. The Smart Agriculture Applied Research team at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology will be assisting the University of Guelph with research efforts by providing a test site for research on the Olds College Smart Farm.
Funders/Partners: The CANN2ONET (A Canadian Nitrous Oxide Collaboration Network to Meet Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets) project is funded as part of NSERC-SSHRC’s Sustainable Agriculture Research Initiative.
CANN2ONET’s partners include: Grain Farmers of Ontario, Grain Growers of Canada, Farmers for Climate Solutions, Pulse Canada, Canola Council of Canada, Fertilizer Canada, Plant Nutrition Canada, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Viresco Solutions, Field-to-Market Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Academic partners with U of G include Dalhousie University, McGill University, University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan, Olds College of Agriculture & Technology, the University of British Columbia and Lethbridge Polytechnic.
