Blacksmithing

Explore the art of blacksmithing with two hands-on courses.

This blacksmithing program offers a progression from basic to advanced skills, starting with an introduction to fundamental forging techniques and progressing to more complex projects.

Registration deadline: 1-week prior to course start date.

  • Pending availability; late registrations may be accepted with a late fee. Limited space is available so register early.

Required Materials:

  • Safety boots (Leather/Non Flammable) 
  • Cotton clothing (heavy jeans or fire-retardant coveralls are best)
  • High-Temperature resistant gloves (welding gloves or leather gloves) 
  • Safety glasses
  • Ear plugs
  • Cross pein or ball pein hammer & forging tools such as tongs (if you don't have a hammer and tools, some will be available for use.)

Note: PPE is required. Participants MUST bring safety glasses, leather shoes, long hair should be tied back and NO HAIR SPRAY. A bandana is recommended to cover your hair.

FUNdamental Forging

A 1-day introductory course covering blacksmithing basics, including safety, tools, and forge management. Learn essential metalworking skills like tapering, flattening, punching holes, and creating decorative designs.

Beyond Beginner Blacksmithing

A 2-day course designed to build on your existing skills. Create tools and practice techniques for more complex projects, including punches and chisels, with hands-on demonstrations and plenty of forge time.

Skills Learned:

  • Rivet two pieces of forged material together,
  • Chiselling to make the split scroll ends
  • Twisting joinery,
  • Riveting and or collaring
  • Rasping and filing

Available Projects:

  • Punches, Riveting Tools, and Tongs — These projects will help you in making your own tools for you to add to your toolbox.
  • Scrolls, Circles, and Rivets — Create a garden trivet.
  • Campfire Set — A portable pot hanger and frying pan holder set.
