The learner develops fundamental concepts of business management within the context of agriculture. These basic tools will provide the foundation for sound business decisions as they relate to all aspects and functional areas of the organization.

Required Text: Introduction to Agricultural Economics (Student Value Edition); 7th Edition, Penson, J., et al.

Agribusiness Accounting | AMT 1335

Dates: October 28 - December 20, 2024
Cost: $615.72 + textbook
Prerequisites: None
Delivery Method: Online

The learner generates financial records and statements, using generally accepted accounting principles, for agribusinesses. Industry software is used and attention to unique industry issues is emphasized.

Required Text: Larson (CDN), Fundamental Accounting Principles, Volume 1, 17 edition

Agribusiness Financial Management | AMT 2035

Dates: January 13 - March 7, 2025

Prerequisites: Agribusiness Accounting | AMT 1335
Delivery Method: Online

This is a course on business management practices and processes for decision making. The impact of money management on business performance is examined through the application of selected budgeting processes and business risk assessments.

Required Text: Farm Management (Kay, Edwards, Duffy) 10th International Students Edition

Marketing Principles | MKG 1021

Dates: March 10 - May 2, 2025
Cost: $673.29 (including fees)
Prerequisites: None
Delivery Method: Online

This course develops an understanding of marketing concepts, principles, and practices. Topics examined include the influence of environmental factors on the marketing process, marketing strategy development, marketing mix formulation and adjustment for pricing, promoting and distributing appropriate products and services to selected markets.

Electives

One approved course (or more) in an area which supports your individual professional development needs and is consistent with the goals of this certificate. Elective course(s) must be from the following Continuing Education Certificate Programs: Agronomy Certificate Level 1 or Level 2Agriculture Sales and Support Certificate or Smart Agriculture Certificate - Agronomy Stream. Students may take an alternate Olds College course but it must be approved by the Continuing Education Programming Coordinator.
