Future Mechanics: Small Engines, Big Skills

Whether you’ve never touched a wrench or you’re already tinkering in the garage, you will learn theory and then go straight to hands-on lab work. By the end of the week, you’ll know how to keep small engines running and how to rebuild one.

Real tools. Real engines. Real skills.

This immersive, high-energy camp is the ultimate crash course for teens aged 14 to 18 to learn engine technology.

Camp Overview

  • We start with the basics, quickly turning you into an Engine Detective. You'll work on real small engines found in lawnmowers, trimmers, chainsaws, ATVs and bikes, and learn what makes them work – and NOT work!

    • Why won't it start? You'll know! Master techniques to diagnose problems with fuel, electrical and mechanical systems.
    • Hands-on time performing the critical maintenance needed to make an engine run like new: spark plugs, oil changes, air filters and carburetor adjustments.
    • Learn to safely and effectively use all the essential tools—no more guessing what that wrench is for!
  • This is where we go next-level. We’ll completely dismantle an engine and put it back together—teaching you the mechanics of major repairs and performance.

    • You'll disassemble an entire engine, inspecting every part—from the piston rings to the valves. This is the ultimate insider view of how power is made!
    • Learn the critical steps and precision measurements required to overhaul an engine, including the proper reassembly of complex components.
    • Dive into the Drivetrain (how the power gets to the wheels) and Advanced Electrical Systems to understand the full machine.
    • The moment of truth—we’ll attempt to start the engines you fixed and rebuilt!

Requirements

  • Safety glasses.
  • CSA safety boots or shoes.
  • Clothes you can get dirty or coveralls.
