    Quality Assurance and Control in the Cannabis Industry

    Students will learn the role of the Quality Assurance/Control Person as it relates Good Production Practices and other responsibilities as defined under the Health Canada Cannabis Act. Key concepts include Introduction into Quality Assurance and Control, Standard Operating Procedure design and implementation, PCP Acts, PMRA , Type of Hazards, Integrated Pest Management, Quality control and testing, Packaging and storage, Labeling, Good Documentation Practices, and management of complaints and recalls.

  • Cannabis Production Program - Level 1

    Cannabis Production

    This program prepares graduates for employment in the growing cannabis production industry, or to support those already in the workplace. This program provides entry level job-based training paired with hands-on experience, and is committed to providing graduates the skills needed to enter into employment with a range of cannabis producers, from medicinal to adult use. Students can expect to spend four months in four intensive online courses followed by a five-week blended course which includes a one-week field study. This field study will include spending time with one of our partners and supported by an online experience. 

    • Four online, instructor led, 45 hour equivalent courses
    • Stand-alone courses; take individual courses based on your needs
    • A blended online and hands on field study with industry

    Delivery: Online + 1 week on-site with a Licensed Cannabis Producer

    Credential: Non-credit

    Costs: $799 + GST per course (4 courses), $499 + GST for the Field Study

  • Introduction to Cannabis Retail

    Cannabis Production

    What can you expect from this program/course?

    This course prepares students for employment in the cannabis retail industry. It will help students thrive in the industry by introducing them to a scientific and biological framework for understanding cannabis, a variety of product knowledge and the regulations required to operate successfully within a Canadian retail cannabis outlet.

    This course is completed entirely online and students can log on at times that best suit them in this 4 week course. Students will complete various assessments and have access to an industry-based instructor to help differentiate themselves in this new and popular industry.

  • Prairie Hort Certificate

    The Prairie Horticulture Certificate program is the online program in horticulture designed specifically for the prairie provinces and is offered through the Continuing Education department. Choose one of four streams of focus and once you have completed all of the courses in your selected stream you will be granted a Prairie Horticulture Certificate from Olds College. It is jointly offered by a consortium of three Western Canadian institutions:

    • Olds College
    • Assiniboine Community College
    • University of Saskatchewan

    Intake Dates:

    • Term 1 -  September 16 -   November 22;  Final exam   November 23
    • Term 2 -  January 13 -   March 20; Final exam   March 21
    • Term 3 -  March 23 - May 29;  Final exam May 30

  • Turf Science Certificate

    What can you expect from this program/course?

    This certificate addresses general and specialized aspects of the science, current cultural systems and construction practices for the turf industry. Courses provide practical applications relevant to parks, sports turf, golf course, professional lawn care, sod production and turf-related sales/service sectors.
